Due to some restrictions, there were limited photo's during this months meeting. I am going to use John Vighetto's comments here with minor editing:

"I wanted to thank Detective Carlos Cajigas as well as his fellow officers, Peter & Paul, for a really interesting and informative presentation. Having seen how files on a hard drive were altered/deleted and to be thought removed, and then to see how relatively easy it is to recover these files was impressive. To also see how easy it is to track down where a particular picture (in this example) was taken and then use Google Earth to zero in on the location was very interesting. I will definitely be turn off the geo-tagging on all my mobile devices!

Due to the sensitive nature of the presentation, video was not allowed.

I’m sure that everyone who attended enjoyed last night’s presentation based upon the questions and conversations afterwards.

Also want to always thank Lynne and Windstream for their support and generosity in allowing us to have our meetings at their facilities.

If anyone that was at the presentation last night did not receive the CD that Carlos handed out with the Raptor program, please contact me offline and I can provide you a link to download the ISO file. In this zipped file, it will also include a copy of the Casey Anthony report as well as Carlos’ contact information should you wish to contact him for additional questions.

A really great meeting and presentation to kick off the new season. Note that PBIT gatherings will be in the WindStream East location (by I-95) in the future. For those of you that did not read John Vighetto's summary, I will quote that here:
It was good to see some people who haven't been to the meetings in a while. Not sure if it was the topic or the now new location for the meetings; either way, the presentation was well done.

Thanks to Tage Tatman of Hardware.com for presenting last night. In addition to what was posted on the group website, we also found out that his company refurbishes Cisco, Juniper, and a few other major manufacturer's communication devices, as well as sell completely refurbished, fully certified legacy equipment (and his company covers the equipment for a full year). If people want, I can post Tage's contact info; just let me know.

As always, a special thanks to Lynne for allowing us to have our meetings at the Windstream office. By the way, they now has wireless available.

Although the meeting after the meeting only had a few people, the topics of conversations are always entertaining, and informative (we also found out that Duffy's has some additional specials, both food and drink, that are now available).

Please note that from now on, we are holding our meetings at Windstream's other office (the one we were at last night; with the wireless).

Above, Sam Abraham setting up for his presentation. This was both challenging and delightful. Our normal presentation inside was double-booked by a political event. The 'Casa Maya' manager gracefully offered us the outside patio and full support at that location. This included tablecloths over his front window for a projector screen to replace the flat-screen TV that we would normally use inside. Also, we had just had our first rainstorm in several months, which gratefully paused a few hours for Sam's presentation. Here was the 'Menu'.

Herve has written a framework / api that allows "sharding", splitting data automatically and in parallel across multiple databases either locally or in the cloud (ie: Azure). This addresses some very difficult application scaleability issues.

This was probably the most productive meeting that I recall in recent memory. Let me quote the comments of the Group Leader:

A special thanks to Lynne & Jen from Windstream for hosting us and letting us use the larger conference room…it just wouldn’t have been pretty to have to squeeze everyone into the smaller room!

And in an effort to pre-plan…I know it was brought up last night about doing something similar for remote access tools/MSP services and a few others. Let me know what everyone is interested in doing so we can get it setup.

Hey All,

We had a good meeting last night (3/11/2010) where we had a discussion by author and SBS Training consultant Beatrice Mulzer on the Microsoft 70-653 certification test on SBS 2008. Our turnout was smaller than normal, but the information shared in person and through the GoToMeeting link was very useful and worthwhile. I know I picked up a few good pieces of info that will definitely help me.

You can order the MCTS Exam 70-653 – Configuring Windows Small Business Server 2008 Training Kit from the O’Reilly Press ( a discount link has been shared here previously) or from your favorite Online book reseller. For those of you who are already Microsoft Small Business Specialists , the 70-653 test is a requirement to take by the end of October 2010 to keep that designation current and active.

Prizes were won by everyone in attendance that included Books on Windows 7, Windows 7 software and some Xbox games. Beatrice even gave away a couple of books, which were won by two people in attendance.

I look forward to seeing our regulars and maybe some New people at our Next meeting on Thursday April 8, 2010.

This packed event was attended primarily by user groups from Dade. Broward and Palm Beach counties, as well as others.

DUMB, DUMBER & DUMBERER

I was having a nice swim last night. After a while, basically some Aqua-Jogging. Then I remembered that someone had some actual Aqua-Jogging accessories on the pool stuff shelves. Naturally, it was on the top shelf. While trying to get it down, I lost my footing and fell on my face (right into the kitty-litter box. (Which, thankfully, had just been cleaned.)).

Adding insult to injury, I managed to 'pop' my shoulder on the way down. Another trip to the ER. (We've just got to stop meeting like this.....).

Kudo's to Dr. Vidal & Nurse Ivan. It was about two hours of excruciating Agony getting Xrayed & 'prepped'. Finally, I became aware of my surroundings, not knowing that I had been 'elsewhere'. And my arm was back in my shoulder socket. There was a bit of tenderness, but the major pain was gone. I was back home four hours after it happened.

Ah, yes... this is definately a ' Don't try this at home (or on a production-machine)' issue.

I'm still strapped up with a shoulder harness, but I seem to be able to use the computer ok.

Here's hoping that you have a better day than I. ;-)

Nice of Hurricane Fay to give me some time to update my 'Backbone' computer. This is a 1998 Gateway which still has the original case & floppy drive. It was originally delivered with 1st edition Win 98. This I updated to 98 SP 1 when it came out. Shortly after that I added larger HDs, always cloning the previous to the next.

I skipped ME & 2000, but did update to XP Pro and all subsequent SPs. In all this time, I always 'cloned' up or updated on the existing system. OK, it's 2008, ten years of never doing a complete clean-up and the registry probably looked like a car engine that had never had an oil change.

The back breaker was using the Scanner. I had to shut down my Zone Alarm AV & Adware functions in order to start the scanner software. ZA was just using too many clock cycles and you could see it clearly in Task Manager & Process Explorer.

All important files and programs were available on my Vista Desk top & Laptop so I could wipe clean without really losing anything. I had two 40g drives available so I just completely removed the 80g & 10g (used for swap file). I installed one 40g. (You know the song, Fdisk, Format - Reinstall.) With XP Pro sp1 & immediate update to sp2 & sp3. After that, AVG virus scanner, PC Tools Firewall Plus, my original, tried & true Office 2000, SysInternals, Firefox& ACDC etc.

After everything was in, running and fully updated, I took my second 40g disk, and cloned the first on to the second and then swapped drives. So the drive I just built is on the shelf as an emergency replacement & the clone is now happily whirring away in my 'Gateway'. I'm going to hold the 80g drive 'loaded' on the shelf for a while in case I need to re-install it.

Best of all, if I want to Scan, I can do so directly without having to shut down something else in order to do it. When not doing that, I can watch Hurricane Fay as it proceeds merrily on it's Florida Vacation. What do you do on a rainy day?
