Join us for the South Florida Software Developer Conference for a FREE one-day geek fest with speakers presenting on the most requested topics in tech!

Previously known as the South Florida Code Camp, the conference is now in its 16th year, and 2020 is expected to be the best year yet. We are teaming up with Tech Lauderdale and Palm Beach Tech Association to bring our attendees speakers from the local South Florida community, as well as from across the nation.

As of today we there are 944 people registered for the event and we have 73 speakers signed up. Update: Ivan Mihaylov, CCO for Allterco Robotics is in South Florida this week and will attend the meetup!

Doug Roberson will give a demonstration focusing on two Shelly Cloud modules, manufactured by Allterco Robotics - a Shelly 1 relay and a Shelly Door/Window sensor.

Doug will show how to retrofit an existing "dumb" light switch with a Shelly 1 relay, how to set up and configure the Door/Window sensor, and then illustrate how the two products can work cooperatively with each other (and others), as well as explaining how they can be integrated into various home automation hubs and platforms.

Doug's Bio:

I've worked as a software engineer for ITS, Inc in Delray Beach, FL since 2011. My primary function is coding tax and fee calculations used by auto dealerships to title and register vehicles for out of state customers.

I spent 15 years as QA Manager for Worden Brothers, Inc., working at their offices in Fort Lauderdale FL, Durham NC, and Wilmington NC.

In my spare time, I'm a home automation enthusiast and enjoy finding interesting ways to make home life better using technology. In 2018, I founded a smart home oriented Facebook community, The Smarter Home Club, which is dedicated to helping people learn about smart home products and possibilities without the snark and incivility found in most home automation groups.

Recently, I've teamed up with Allterco Robotics to help them introduce their Shelly Cloud smart home products to the US market."

Driven by the need to stay atop the medical-specialty software industry, Modernizing Medicine is embracing evolutionary changes in technology and process to improve delivery, maintainability, performance, and scale in their .NET-based solutions. This presentation will cover a summary of the .NET development environment at Modernizing Medicine, including our products and tech stack. In addition, we will explore the challenges of building and maintaining a massive and aging .NET application and also the changes being adopted at ModMed to better support the software development experience and ultimately customer experience too.

Al Kahler serves as the Director of Web Development at Modernizing Medicine. In this role, Al oversees software development across a distributed team that spans 4 continents, building both web and mobile products for the GI medical specialty.

Al has over 20 years of experience in software development and has been with ModMed for over 10 years now. Previously, Al was a full-stack developer working across a variety of industries, including medical, marketing, and e-commerce and has a degree from Jacksonville University.

Video streaming apps are all the rage and continue to demonstrate rapid growth in usage and creative implementations. Every vertical market has the need for video apps. So, you want to learn how to build a video streaming app, but you don’t know where to get started or you are not a video expert? Or maybe you are just curious about video technology? Then, this session is for you!

To build a live-streaming app for iOS and Android, you don’t have to be a video expert. Using a mobile SDK and cloud streaming service can help you quickly and easily integrate live video into an existing app or service or build a livestream app from the ground up. Using these tools, you can build anything from a basic one-way broadcasting platform to a fully interactive live-streaming app that allows users to create and share their own videos. This is referred to as user generated content. It’s all about the tools, huh?

What about the need for speed? More and more apps demand real-time streaming delivery—such as those for gaming, financial trading, auctions or interactive experiences like HQ Trivia—you need an API that’s built for speed. Learn how to send live streams to destinations around the world with the goal to minimize the latency time it takes to display a live video from glass to glass. That is, from the glass of the recording device glass to the glass of the end viewer’s screen.

Dave Noderer is the CEO / President and founder of Computer Ways, Inc., a software development company, COO of Nedd Tech Inc., focused on Augmented Reality, a Microsoft MVP and developer community activist. Mr. Noderer is an Electrical Engineer by training and has been doing software development since founding Computer Ways, Inc. In 1994.

Dave is very active in .net User Group communities. He spent 3 years as an officer and director of INETA (International .NET Association) where he oversaw the enrollment and support of hundreds of user groups worldwide. He and others founded Florida .NET User groups in 2001 and has been holding software developer meetups in South Florida ever since.

The Mixed reality industry has seen multiple advances in hardware and software over the last year, so let's talk about them and determine what it means for Microsoft mixed reality developers. In this talk we'll discuss the new headsets from Magic Leap, and Facebook, how you develop against them, as well as when new features, frameworks and upcoming devices on the horizon from Microsoft. Some demos on new HoloLens samples, and the Magic Leap emulator will be shown.

Speakers: Dwight Goins is a Solution Architect for South East Toyota Finances (SETF) by day where he designs cloud-based financial solutions. In his nightlife, he is the Chief Algorithm Officer (CAO) of NEDD Tech where leads a team of developers creating augmented reality experiences. If that isn’t enough he tirelessly contributes to open source projects, as well as a maintains an updated InfoSec Certified Ethical Hacker Intructor license with InfoSec Institute. He maintains an active MVP honor as well as a MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer) license. In this session, we are taking a look at building a virtual machine in cloud using PowerShell Core and Azure Resource Manager commands in Linux. This demo will cover from the ground up to create a VM as the Azure documentation was incomplete, and there are some pitfall to avoid before you start creating scripts. It's important to understand and start using Azure Resource Manager (AzureRM).

Like any new shinny tool, you might be wondering what you can do with it or where it a good place to use it. In this talk, we'll get an overview of serverless and the types of scenarios it enables. We'll take a look at Azure Functions and see some demos of how quickly we can get started building serverless solutions. Some topics we'll discuss include triggers, services integrations and monitoring. In addition to that, we'll dive into the Durable Functions feature for creating stateful workflows.

Cecil Phillip is a software developer with almost a decade of experience with creating enterprise grade software solutions. Over his career, he has specialized in creating solutions using web technologies, .NET and Microsoft Azure. He has a passion for software architecture, testing and API design. Today, he's employed by Microsoft as a Cloud Developer Advocate where he helps guide developers on moving their applications to the cloud.
